The village of Centerville is one of the most desirable communities in the coastal Town of Barnstable, MA. living in centerville

Centerville got its name from its central location in the Town of Barnstable. Living here puts you just minutes away from the top attractions on Cape Cod.

Craigville Beach, the most popular beach in Barnstable, is practically at your doorstep. If you want a more tranquil beach experience, with warmer waters and milder waves, you can walk or bike to Covell’s Beach, however please note that parking is exclusive to Town of Barnstable residents only.

At the heart of Centerville is Wequaquet Lake, a 654 acre lake with 7.5 miles of shoreline. This popular lake is frequently visited by locals and tourists for topnotch canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and other water activities.

The shorelines of Nantucket Sound and Wequaquet Lake serve as habitats for widely diverse species of plants and animals, making them perfect destinations for wildlife and bird watching, or for a quiet, relaxing time surrounded by nature.

As with the rest of Barnstable, Centerville boasts beautiful historic attractions that will take you to another place and time. The Centerville Historic District features the original homes of wealthy ship captains who lived here in the early 1800s. The 1856 Country Store on Main Street has been serving the village since the 1840s and continues to sell penny candy to this day, as well as a charming selection of gifts and houseware. Four Seas Ice Cream has been a staple in the village since 1934, and is housed on a former blacksmith shop.

Other historic attractions in the village include the Centerville Historical Museum and the Centerville Library.

ABOUT CENTERVILLE Real Estate

Single-family homes dominate the housing stock in Centerville, MA, and they come in a wide range of prices, sizes, and ages. You’ll find larger established homes and landmark properties, as well as charming properties in more regular sizes. Centerville homes make wonderful primary or vacation homes, and with the area’s popularity to tourists, they also make great investment properties.

The most desirable properties are waterfront homes along the shoreline of Nantucket Sound and Wequaquet Lake, many of which come with private beaches or deeded water access, as well as docks for one or more boats. You’ll find gorgeous estates with lot areas ranging from 0.25 acre to over 8 acres, and square footage of around 1,000 to over 9,000.

With Centerville’s small size, even non-waterfront homes provide great access to the beach, making properties further inland fantastic options, as well. In the village’s mature tree-canopied neighborhoods, you’ll find beautiful ranches, Colonial, or classic Cape Cod style homes.

While the majority of homes in Centerville were built in the 1970s and earlier, there are also quite a few new construction properties built in the last 4 years.
